Dressage, Beginner thru Advanced
I have been riding Dressage for 28 years(prior to that was 7years of Huntseat and 3years in Eventing until I fell in love with musical rides and became a ‘purist’) and a student of Susan Williams for 15 of those years. Sue has been a mentor, coach and friend. She has trained four horses to Grand Prix level and trained with some of the best names in Dressage. I owe her much in making me a respectable rider. With her wisdom and guidance, I finished my last horse at PSG and now looking to Chocolat for that and hopefully more! My greatest joy is the development of horse and rider to become a team. I am ‘the peoples’ dressage coach. I understand that most of us have to balance our riding with work, family and daily demands as well as ride and train our horses~ no easy task. I believe in challenging and mentoring my students, not stressing them. Horsemanship and honesty are my first priorities, but then again that is the basis of true Dressage!!!

Having ridden from the time I was 10, I found my true passion in cross training for Eventing when I moved my first horse and first Eventing partner, Andrew, to train with Tom Davis of Flatlands Equestrian Center. Since that first winter at Flatlands, I have gone on to train with ICP Certified Event instructors on both the East and West Coasts including Babette Lenna, Don Sachey, Brian Sabo, Andrea Waldo, and Sarah Vandenberg. In the summer of 2010 I earned a fifth place national ranking on the United States Eventing Association’s Leaderboard with my 18 hand Thoroughbred, Magilla. Following that summer, Magilla and I moved to San Diego, CA to train full time with Sarah Vandenberg. Having moved back to the East Coast to complete my bachelor’s degree at Wheaton College, I am now teaching lessons and training some of the younger horses here at Edinger Farm. One of the key principles of my teaching philosophy is what I learned from Tom Davis, “competence comes from confidence”. In order for a rider to be truly effective on horseback, he/she must believe in what they are doing. This self confidence takes time to strengthen and build, which is the great pursuit of both the student equestrian and the instructor!
